We are seeking a talented Data Scientist specializing in Bioinformatics to join our Software team at miDiagnostics. 

As a Data Scientist, you will be responsible for understanding key algorithmic blocks in the current data analysis pipeline, developing novel approaches, new algorithms and optimizing existing algorithms for in silico assay design and PCR results analysis. 

In this role you will need to:

  • Understand key algorithmic blocks in the overall data analysis pipeline both on-premise and cloud-based solutions;
  • Develop and optimize genetic data input process, including retrieval, cleaning, clustering, alignment...,etc;
  • Interface with various external partners for API interfaces for database connections (such as NCBI);
  • Create different visualization tools to support complete results analysis by our scientists;
  • Interface with experimental team to contribute to the needs analysis for data collection for algorithm validation and verification;
  • Contribute to roadmap of algorithmic development and improvements.

Your role will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams to interpret data, identify trends, and contribute to the development of cutting-edge diagnostic solutions.

Job requirements

  • Degree in bioengineering / bioinformatics (or similar) and a minimum of 3 years experience;
  • Experience working with genetic data, focused on primer-probe design and PCR data analysis;
  • Familiarity with genetic databases such as NCBI;
  • Experience with Python. JavaScript, HTML are a plus;
  • Previous experience with AWS and Cloud development and deployment;
  • Service-minded, detail-oriented, result-focused and quality driven;
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of Dutch is an asset;
  • Good communication skills and team player;
  • Experience with computer vision and signal processing is a big plus;
  • Experience with defining APIs and software architecture development is an asset;
  • An understanding of relevant regulatory requirements within the IVD/medical industry is a plus;
  • Our offices are located in Leuven (Belgium). Relocation to Belgium is needed. It is essential that you hold entitlement to work and live in Belgium.
