Job description

We are looking for a Junior Development Engineer, on a temporary basis (with eventually an option on a fixed contract), in order to reinforce our team during a few months.

As our Junior Development Engineer, you will be working in the engineering team and contributing to the development of miDiagnostics’ state-of-the-art molecular diagnostics products.

Your responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Designing products, systems and experimental jigs with state of the art Computer Aided Design tools;
  • Prototyping via in-house 3D-printing, CNC machining, laser cutting, hand tools…;
  • Performing hands-on experiments in the lab;
  • Working closely with miDiagnostics partners and suppliers to design, develop and evaluate engineering test rigs at part and subsystem level;
  • Conducting research, documenting findings, and presenting reports at meetings;
  • Documenting mechanical parts and final products in technical drawings;
  • Assisting the operations teams in selecting the required tools and materials for the manufacturing process. 

Job requirements

  • Master of Engineering degree, preferably with 1- 3 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Science or Bio-engineering;
  • Fluent in English (written and verbal);
  • Pragmatic problem solver with a hands-on attitude;
  • Team player;
  • Creative and technically skilled in many of the following areas: microfluidics, mechanics, polymers, adhesives;
  • Awareness of the following topics and eager to learn more: concept generation; engineering analysis and design; 3D Computer Aided Design; prototyping and lab testing; design for high and low volume manufacture; design for high reliability; transfer to manufacture;
  • Confident when presenting ideas and results;
  • Eager to work in the highly regulated environment of in-vitro diagnostics product development,

The ideal candidate also:

  • Is experienced in designing systems that implement complex biochemical assays and able to navigate the technical and cost trade-offs to develop balanced products;
  • Has awareness of molecular biology and/or molecular diagnostics;
  • Has experience in prototyping via CNC, 3D-printing and laser cutting;
  • Has technical awareness in one of the following environments: engineering department of a medical or pharmaceutical company; technical or design consultancy; technology start-up; 
  • Has practical experience of healthcare industry-specific regulatory processes: working to Quality Management Systems such as ISO 13485/ISO14971; design control.

Our offices are located in Leuven (Belgium). You need to be entitled to live and work in Belgium.
